A Vote That Counts

Labour are red
The Tories are blue
Vote however you like
For the fact that holds true
Is that tomorrow; next week
When the new PM’s in
It will still be the case
That you can still win
If you don’t blame the outcome
On a whole load of rot
But focus instead
On the skills that you’ve got
To focus, work hard
With resolve and with might
For the gold that you seek
Is intrinsic; out of sight
Being contained in each one of us
For better or bad
So dig deep and discover
With a heart that is glad
To not see the red, and neither the blue
But the spectrum inside you
And make that work for you
For politicians will come
And then they will go
And no matter how much
Each manifesto
Makes great promises to match
Your wishes and wills
Or tries to deliver
Through political frills
Labour will stay red
The Tories will stay blue
But the rainbow that gives most
Will be always in you

Milliband’s Owls For All

The promise is an owl, they said
A bird of prey that could
Save each and every one for sure
And get them out the wood

Yet give each wisdom, give them flight
With wings to be so free
Nocturnal sight through darker times
And there you might just see

A bird that would surpass the hoot
That flapped all red and blue
An owl for everyone, they said
Rhetoric or tweettwoo?

Oh Dear Dear Mr Cameron

Oh dear dear Mr Cameron
You are a silly boy
For it appears you have thrown out
Of pram your best best toy
Those voters who could in their mass
Vote for you – yes it’s true!
The minions who have been hit
By the government and you

For all the welfare changes that
You deem to be reforms
My dear dear Mr Cameron
I fear they’re far from norm
You’ve penalised the poor folk and
Hit disability
And now you’re putting children in
More stark real poverty

You’ve chastised middle classes and
You’ve raped the country’s heart
Yet have you paid your duty and
Really played your part?
You’ve battered all the teachers though
I’m sure you think you’ve not
For they don’t know now where they stand
When some have lost the plot!

You’ve vexed the old age pensioners
You’ve killed the NHS
And Europe?  Well let’s not go there
For you’ll say it’s labour – yes?
Yet dear dear Mr Cameron
Although you might not see
It’s not that people do not want
To act responsibly

For most are just and upright
Partners in a social way
Are happy to pay out and help
The country day on day
To be part of this union
To play their role in life
But dear dear Mr Cameron
Stop twisting in the knife!

Tipping The Balance

I’d be perfectly contented
To die in poverty
If I’d contributed to life
And to all society
To support with another’s plight
To make a difference
I’d happily be penniless
Without any inference

For when I see some of the wealthy
The rich who are so free
It brings a tear into my eye
At their lack of liberty
For wealth is a great privilege
To share and to assist
To disburse and relieve anguish
To lift poverty’s mist

For the conditions that some live in
The lack of human rights
The rife hunger and starvation
Are not a pretty sight
As the balance of abundance
Is set to so unfair
So is it such a sacrifice
To give and offer care?

Truth and Responsibility

There’s a culture of blame apparent
That’s swept across the land
Paralysing the sense of freedom
Taking truth hostage in its stand

There’s a move towards complacency
That’s asphyxiating hearts
An inability to apologize
Segregating into parts

There’s a harbouring of hatred
Suffocating liberty
Depriving love and laughter
Detaining in captivity

There’s an ethos of rash judgement
That fails to understand
Neglecting to appreciate
Different perceptions hand in hand

There’s a path of destruction
That stifles global breath
Draining empathy and compassion
Leaving a trail of death

There’s a choice to be made?
A subscription to integrity
Upholding honour daily
With truth and responsibility
